Video sizes for YouTube, TikTok, Reels, Facebook and Snapchat
Upload the wrong shape and the platform crops your video or adds black bars. These are the sizes that fill the screen on each one.
| Platform | Aspect ratio | Recommended size |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube (standard) | 16:9 | 1920 × 1080 (or 3840 × 2160 for 4K) |
| YouTube Shorts | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
| TikTok | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
| Facebook feed | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 |
| Snapchat Story / Spotlight | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
Why vertical video needs its own edit
A 16:9 video squeezed into a 9:16 frame fills less than a third of the screen. Viewers scroll past. If vertical platforms matter to you, either shoot vertically or reframe your edit for each one.
Reframing one edit for every platform
Option 1: Change the canvas, then reposition
In Lumnexvideoeditor, switch the canvas to 9:16 above the preview. Select each clip and use Scale and Position X in the Inspector to keep the subject in frame. This gives the best result because you choose the crop shot by shot.
Option 2: Let export add a blurred background
Keep your 16:9 edit and choose TikTok, Reels or Snapchat in the Export dialog. Lumnexvideoeditor places your video in the middle and fills the rest of the vertical frame with a blurred, darkened copy. It's quick and nothing gets cropped, though the video itself is smaller.
Safe zones for text
On vertical platforms the app's own buttons and captions cover the bottom and right edges. Keep titles roughly in the middle 60–70% of the frame so they aren't hidden.
Frame rate
Export at the frame rate you shot at. 24 fps looks cinematic, 30 fps suits most talking-head and vlog content, and 60 fps is best for gaming and fast sports. Converting 24 fps footage to 60 fps doesn't make it smoother.
