How to cut and trim a video for free, without a watermark
You don't need to install software or create an account to cut a video. Here's how to do it in your browser and get a clean MP4 with no logo on it.
Before you start
Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on a laptop or desktop. Phones work too, but editing long 4K files on a phone can run out of memory. Your files are processed on your own device, so a slow internet connection doesn't matter.
1. Import your footage
Open the editor and drop your files onto Import media, or click it to browse. MP4, MOV and WebM video, MP3/WAV/M4A audio and JPG/PNG/WebP images are supported. Each file appears in the Media panel with its length.
2. Put clips on the timeline
Click a clip to add it at the playhead, or drag it onto a specific track. Video and images go on the Video tracks, music and voice-over on the Audio tracks. Upper video tracks appear on top of lower ones, which is how you make picture-in-picture.
3. Split where you want to cut
Click the ruler to move the playhead, use the arrow keys to step one frame at a time, then press S (or click Split). The clip becomes two pieces. Select the piece you don't want and press Delete.
4. Trim the edges
Hover over the start or end of a clip and drag the edge. Clips snap to the playhead and to neighbouring clips, so you can close gaps precisely. Made a mistake? Ctrl+Z undoes it.
5. Export without a watermark
Click Export, then Download Video to Local Storage. The video is rendered by your graphics card and saved as an MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio), which plays almost everywhere. If you want a vertical version for TikTok or Reels, pick that platform instead and Lumnexvideoeditor will produce a 1080×1920 file.
Tips for cleaner cuts
- Cut on action. A cut placed in the middle of a movement is less noticeable than one on a still moment.
- Leave a few frames of breathing room before and after someone speaks so words aren't clipped.
- Add a short audio fade (0.2–0.5 s) at cut points to avoid clicks.
